In response to the urgent need for environmental action, India has embarked on a journey towards sustainability, setting ambitious targets for achieving net zero emissions by 2070.

Let’s delve into the key initiatives driving this green revolution.

  1. Ambitious Goals: India targets achieving net zero emissions by 2070, signaling a commitment to long-term sustainability.
  2. Key Initiatives in 2023: The Union Budget outlines comprehensive plans for green growth, emphasizing the importance of sustainable development.
  3. Sectoral Focus: Programs in green fuel, energy, mobility, and farming aim to address critical areas contributing to environmental impact.
  4. Green Credit Programme (GCP): This initiative incentivises eco-actions like tree planting and promotes voluntary environmental contributions.
  5. Waste Management: India plans to establish 500 “waste-to-wealth” plants under the GOBARdhan scheme to manage organic waste effectively.
  6. Circular Economy (CE) Plans: Strategic efforts are underway to develop Circular Economy (CE) plans, addressing various waste management challenges.
  7. Policy Amendments: Recent revisions to policies such as Plastic Waste Management and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) rules aim to accelerate progress towards a circular economy.
  8. G20 Leadership: India’s leadership in the G20 has led to the launch of global alliances for land restoration and the blue economy, fostering international collaboration on environmental initiatives.
  9. Air Quality Measures: With monitoring in 131 cities and holistic improvement efforts, India is actively addressing air quality challenges to promote public health and well-being.
  10. 2030 Renewable Energy Targets: India aims to achieve 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, with a focus on increasing the share of non-fossil fuel-based power sources.
  11. Other Initiatives: The National Green Hydrogen Mission, Sustainable Agriculture, and Biodiversity Conservation efforts are among the initiatives driving India’s transition towards a sustainable future.

With concerted efforts and innovative solutions, India aims to lead the charge towards a net-zero future, steering towards a greener and more resilient future.
